Hilary Curtis

Dr. Curtis has a depth of experience in providing trauma-informed treatment for mental health and substance use issues with adolescents and adults, and intensive experience with criminal justice populations where she has worked collaboratively with courts, and community stakeholders. She has successfully written and implemented multiple SAMHSA and BJA grants targeting evidence-based practice capacity expansion and trauma-informed care for diversionary court programs to manage the opiate crisis. Her research interests include gender-responsive trauma-informed care, gender bias in diagnosis, and program development to establish excellence in dual diagnosis care integrating neurobiologically informed care. Dr. Curtis has worked as a therapist, clinical supervisor and program director of community mental health programs serving adolescents and adults with mental health and substance use disorders for 30 years. She earned her BA at Cornell University in Social Relations (combined major of psychology, sociology and anthropology), her MEd at Harvard University in Counseling and Consulting Psychology, and her PhD from Boston College in Counseling and Developmental Psychology and Research Methods. She is a licensed mental health counselor in Massachusetts where she is in private practice.
