We’re still here, and you are too.
If you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you’ve undoubtedly noticed that the cultural winds are shifting. The private and public policies, attitudes, and very vocabulary that were meant to support this community are being tested every day. From widespread retreat from the business community to efforts to erode legal protections to threats to their very safety and personhood, it’s easy to feel like things are going backwards this Pride Month.
Among the most serious, albeit lesser-reported, examples of this institutional and cultural backlash is the impact on public health resources for this population. Whether it’s cancelling nearly a billion dollars worth of research funding, dismantling LGBTQ+ suicide prevention resources, or any of the other measures we’ve seen in the recent climate, the medical and mental health mechanisms on which LGBTQ+ patients used to be able to rely are facing elimination at an unexpectedly rapid rate.
A Vicious Cycle
In such an atmosphere, people not only struggle to find the help they need but may also become discouraged from seeking it altogether. At the same time, the very issues for which they needed treatment and support in the first place (discrimination, violence, marginalization, strained family relationships, etc.) can become more urgent and amplified.
We’re Not Giving Up…And Neither Should You
If you or you’re loved one is struggling, hold tight to the reality that you can still seek and receive the care you need. Your trauma and challenges are not situational and shouldn’t depend on the cultural circumstances in which you seek help for them.
This Pride Month, and every day of the year, Recovery Unplugged wants to let the LGBTQ+ community know that we remain committed to helping them navigate, address and overcome their unique struggles, particularly in a time when many are more uncertain and anxious than ever. We have been a clinical and cultural ally of the LGBTQ+ community for years and will continue to provide the treatment and support you or your loved one needs.
Whether it’s our culturally competent therapists, sensitive clinical programming, safe and supportive housing, or any other aspect of our LGBTQ+ care, Recovery Unplugged has built our treatment offerings to address the full breadth of behavioral issues members of this community face, including substance use, depression, anxiety, PTSD or any other.
Our advocacy is not, and has never been, about the pursuit of cultural equity or increased revenue; rather, a response to the data-backed realities that the LGBTQ+ population faces disproportionately high rates of mental health issues even in the most hospitable of climates.
We’re Ready When You Are
No matter what you’re going through, where you are in the country or how much it may seem like things are going in the wrong direction, Recovery Unplugged is standing by to provide comprehensive care. If you show up for yourself and ask for help, we’ll show up for you and provide it. We offer inpatient, outpatient and virtual options to make it as easy as possible to start your treatment journey. You still matter, you can do this and we can help.
