Substance use disorder requires immediate, comprehensive and expert clinical treatment. Very often, we think of these treatment options in the narrowest of terms: a residential rehab where patients stay for a minimum of 28 days, until they get clean and start taking steps to rebuild their lives. The reality is, however, that outpatient treatment programs are just as common and can be more affordable because they’re often more readily covered by insurance. The fact is not everyone can afford to, or needs to, remove themselves from their families, careers and everyday lives to get treatment. Our intensive outpatient (IOP) programs in Florida and Texas offer clients targeted and in-depth care while maintaining their flexibility and their independence.
Intensive outpatient treatment programs consist of multiple weekly treatment sessions, during which patients undergo group therapy, individualized counseling and various supplemental therapies. These therapies can include anything from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and other clinical modalities, to holistic and occupational therapies like art therapy, music therapy, creative writing and more. Programs generally last six to eight weeks with five to six eight-hour treatment sessions per week. Patients often have the opportunity “step down” into regular outpatient programs as they progress in their treatment.
Like other treatment paradigms for substance use, comprehensive intensive outpatient care addresses the physical and psychological aspects of the condition, while providing for long-term growth and gradual repair of the lifestyle fallout that occurred as a result of drug and alcohol abuse. It goes beyond any one form of care, and offers a fully formed recovery experience that allows participants to heal. While each person’s course of intensive outpatient care will vary based upon their care needs and substance use history, some of the core elements include:
Recovery from substance use disorder begins with addressing the immediate medical issues associated with the condition, as well as the lingering withdrawal symptoms that, so often, make it difficult for users to avoid relapse. Data from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) indicates that relapse rates for substance use disorder are between 40 and 60 percent, roughly on par with other diseases like diabetes and hypertension. One of the reasons why these rates are so high is that they individuals find it exceedingly difficult to weather the withdrawal process alone. Medically supervised detox at Recovery Unplugged offers trained doctors and nurses who provide compassionate relief of withdrawal symptoms, and can intervene in the event of a medical emergency. We offer detox at our Lake Worth, FL and Austin, TX locations.
In addition to detox and withdrawal management, the intensive outpatient treatment process requires targeted and in-depth rehab and behavior modification. Recovery Unplugged offers a cutting-edge rehab approach that uses music to engage existing evidence-based treatment models. Our (IOP) rehab program utilizes music-assisted techniques, like personalized playlists, composition and songwriting, performance and production and live performances from artists who are in recovery. There is an element of music in every part of Recovery Unplugged’s behavioral health programming. The process also includes group dynamics, one-on-one counseling and other supplemental modalities to promote healing.
Recovery Unplugged also offers medication-assisted treatment for eligible clients struggling with long-term opioid and alcohol use disorder.
