ALCOHOL DETOX

Alcohol detox is not an easy process and can often lead to experiencing withdrawal symptoms ranging from mild symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, headache, irritability, tremors, and sweating to more severe symptoms that can lead to serious brain disorders, coma, and even death, like high fever, seizures, and delirium tremens (confusion, hallucinations, unusual brain activity, death). Because even mild symptoms and cravings can be enough to cause many people to relapse immediately, and because withdrawal can quickly get out of control, inpatient medical detox is recommended.

DRUG DETOX & PRESCRIPTION DETOX

Illicit and prescription drug detox at Recovery Unplugged is a residential program inside our detox center, providing substance abuse and mental health treatments in our integrated rehabilitation programs. As each type of drug has different effects on the body, and each person's physical health, psychological needs, genetics, and biology are unique, your addiction treatment program will be customized to your unique circumstances. We will work with you to make sure your time in our drug and alcohol rehab center is not frightening, stressful, or painful. You will be provided with all the care, support, therapy, medication, and other treatments you need to remain comfortable and safe in a streamlined and effective medical detox program. Once you are ready, it is recommended to continue directly into an addiction treatment program.

WHAT IS DETOX LIKE?

During a detox program, you will have:

Medical care, psychiatric care, and counseling are provided by trained, credentialed, educated, and experienced doctors, psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, holistic treatment providers, and other addiction professionals.

During detox, you will also have 24-hour oversight and care, so if you need anything, day or night, somebody will be there for you. You will also have access to a friendly and engaging alcohol and drug addiction treatment community in a supportive environment. Patients in detox can also undergo medication-assisted treatment for substance abuse to help treat cravings and longer-term withdrawal symptoms through a safe tapering-off program that may involve medications like Buprenorphine (Suboxone®), Lorazepam, Phenobarbital, Diazepam, and Librium.

HOW LONG DOES DETOX TAKE?

Detoxing from substance use disorders is a personal experience that is different for everybody. We will customize your care to best help you through your unique symptoms and health issues. Generally speaking, detox can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on your overall wellness, what substance(s) you were using, how long you were using them, and how much you were using at a time.

ALCOHOL REHAB

We have several levels of care for alcohol rehab, including inpatient rehab that takes place 100% inside our sober treatment center and outpatient treatment plans that include our partial hospitalization program and our intensive outpatient program. There is also an online version of the intensive outpatient program. After you have completed your unique continuum of care during alcohol rehab, you will continue to have access to our services on a flexible basis in our outpatient and aftercare program. Alumni services are also available for a lifelong connection to sober living resources, sober friendships, meetings, support, and sober activities.

DRUG REHAB

Our drug rehab program tackles addiction at its source by treating the individual. Our unique drug rehab program is tailored to each patient's needs so they receive personalized care. Drug rehab can include inpatient, outpatient, and aftercare services.

HOW LONG DOES REHAB TAKE?

Your alcohol and drug abuse treatment will be customized to your needs. On average, you may spend:

  • 3 to 10 days in detox
  • 2 to 4 weeks in residential treatment
  • 10 to 15 days in partial hospitalization programs
  • 10 to 30 days in an intensive outpatient program

We also have long-term, customizable aftercare that can last as long as you want, from a few weeks to years.

INPATIENT ALCOHOL REHAB

Inpatient alcohol rehab is recommended for people who:

  • Have a serious addiction and/or are in a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) detox plan
  • Have a medical condition that requires full-time medical care
  • Are in dual diagnosis care with co-occurring trauma or underlying mental health problems that may require new psychiatric drugs or long-term oversight due to psychosis, violent behavior, or suicidal thoughts
  • Do not have a safe and sober environment to live in during treatment
  • Wish to be removed from their usual day-to-day for a better chance at achieving long-term recovery
  • Want to learn new healthy routines and make big life changes

OUTPATIENT ALCOHOL REHAB

Outpatient rehab is actually a selection of different rehab program options, all of which take place as you live outside of the treatment center, coming back for a set number of hours of treatment per week on a regular schedule. You will otherwise be responsible for yourself, with plenty of support when you need it.

The partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a rehab program that acts as a full-time job. You will come into one of our addiction treatment centers for six hours per day for 10 to 15 days, receiving the same treatments and care as a person in inpatient rehab would.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a more flexible treatment option for substance abuse and mental health treatment, in which you can hold a job, take care of your family and other obligations, and come in for scheduled therapy, groups, appointments, and other treatment and activities two to three hours per day, for 10 to 30 days.

INPATIENT DRUG REHAB

During inpatient drug rehab, you will live inside our comfortable facility, with structured days filled with behavioral health treatments, therapy, education, music, groups, medical care, and other treatment, with the evenings free to relax and reflect. Cell phones are allowed at designated times, and each of our nationwide inpatient drug rehabs has its own amenities, including fitness centers, games rooms and media, secure and safe spaces, and comfortable rooms.

OUTPATIENT DRUG REHAB

The benefits of outpatient drug rehab include:

  • The option to live at home with support from loved ones and family
  • Not needing to leave your job or family behind to go to rehab
  • Learning a hands-on approach to handling stress and practicing coping with strong support
  • Coming to a non-judgmental and supportive environment regularly
  • Ongoing medication management, medical care, and therapy
  • Flexible, safe, and discreet treatment options

MAT

Medically-assisted treatment in Northern Virginia is an alcohol and drug addiction rehab program that incorporates medications, clinical care, therapy, and other treatments for withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings into a drug and alcohol rehab program. FDA-approved medications are provided to help patients taper off their use on a medically supervised schedule without suffering dangerous or uncomfortable symptoms.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a common behavioral therapy used in addiction treatment as it deconstructs self-destructive behavior and provides practical skills and tools to help patients deal with stress by modifying thoughts and behaviors while treating underlying emotional disorders.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of behavioral therapy that teaches new ways to replace negative behaviors and emotions with positive action and thought, integrating mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness, treating the underlying social and emotional reasons behind addiction.

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) therapy focuses on rationality, showing patients that their reactions to situations can be controlled by themselves and that the response to triggers determines the outcome. There is no such thing as a "bad day." It just depends on your perspective. REBT teaches healthy coping techniques and ways to respond to stress in a positive, healthy manner.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Dual diagnosis is offered in our rehabilitation centers to treat co-occurring addiction and mental health issues at the same time in an integrated program. Common mental illness that is found in those with substance abuse issues include:

  • Major depression
  • Anxiety disorder
  • Panic disorders
  • Schizoaffective disorders
  • Conduct disorders
  • OCD
  • Mood disorders
  • Personality disorder
  • ADHD
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • PTSD

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is trauma therapy that helps patients to reframe and store traumatic memories differently by using tapping, tones, or eye movements to create a dual awareness in the brain. By having the patient focusing on the sounds and movements in therapy and reprocessing the memory, it will "unstick," new thought patterns and emotional ties can emerge, and the memory will become less emotionally disturbing.

Relapse Prevention

Because addiction is a chronic disease, you cannot simply detox and call it a day. Recovery is a lifelong process that often requires long-term recovery plans that include relapse prevention strategies like:

  • Routinely attending support groups
  • Knowing the signs of relapse
  • Having people who you trust that you can call when things become difficult
  • Building healthy routines and habits and sticking to them
  • Being honest with yourself and seeking professional therapy or other help when needed

Life Skills Training

Addiction can take over a person's life, causing you to miss out on learning what others may consider basic life skills. In a life skills training program, there is no judgment, only helpful training in the skills you will need to live an independent life, like paying bills, keeping to a schedule, healthy eating and sleep patterns, cleaning, hygiene, etc.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Along with missing out on life skills because of drug and alcohol abuse, you may also miss out on the skills needed to get into the workforce. Getting a job and staying in it long-term may not have ever been a priority for you, or you may have been in a situation where you were simply unable to learn these things. In vocational training, we will fill in the gaps for you, teaching you skills like resume building, how to search for and apply for a job, interview skills, and more.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is essential in most addiction recovery programs. This is any type of therapy that involves one or more therapists or counselors and several patients gathered together to discuss a topic or a theme. Group therapy may be didactic (like a class), or it may be a process group, where part of the treatment is interacting with others. Groups can help you feel less alone in a supportive environment amongst peers, learn new strategies and brainstorm to solve problems.

EXPERIENTIAL THERAPY

Experiential therapy works by using communicative tools and activities inside or outside of the rehab facility so you can re-experience emotional situations from your past as you do a new activity. This may help you reframe negative emotions and memories in a new way. Common experiential therapy options are art therapy, music therapy, role-playing, or adventure/outdoor therapy.

ONE-ON-ONE THERAPY

One-on-one therapy (talk therapy) involves one patient and one therapist speaking privately about life, coping strategies, difficulties and past trauma, and anything else that comes to mind. The purpose of this type of treatment is to help you work to create a more fulfilling and healthier life, relieve stress, and gain new coping tools.

Family Therapy

Family therapy involves two or more loved ones and a therapist to help families through difficulties, problematic behaviors, grief, guilt, misunderstandings, or any situation that is causing stress. In the case of addiction, loved ones may seek family therapy with or without the addicted person to learn more about addiction, heal their own pain, and learn how to best help their family member.

TRAUMA-INFORMED THERAPY

Trauma-informed therapy is a big part of LGBTQIA community-friendly drug and alcohol rehab centers' programs. When a person has experienced trauma in the past, it can be reignited, causing the patient to feel fear, stress, dissociation, and other unpleasant sensations that can make the treatment itself a traumatic experience.

  • Treatment providers using trauma-informed methods will:
  • Know the signs of trauma
  • Ensure the patient understands and consents to all treatments
  • Never force a person to do anything they don't want to do
  • Communicate clearly, keeping the patient informed on their progress
  • Collaborate with the patient instead of telling them what to do
  • Build a trusting relationship with the patient, so they can relax their guard and fully take in their addiction treatments

Physical Fitness

Adding new, healthy routines to an addiction treatment program is beneficial not only to physical health but also to mental wellness. Incorporating weightlifting, yoga, running, or other activities into your life builds self-confidence, reduces stress, and improves physical health, and joining a team or class creates opportunities to meet health-conscious people and make new friends while adding structure to your week.

Off-Site Activities

Living in inpatient rehab is a life of routine, and sometimes a change of pace will do your spirit some good. Off-site activities will get you out of the rehab center, allowing you to see new places and try new activities, and remind you that having fun without drugs and alcohol is possible.

Pet-Friendly Rehab

For most pet owners, the thought of leaving their furry friend behind as they go to rehab is heartbreaking and maybe a deal breaker. Your pet will be there for you, providing a sense of purpose and unconditional love as you detox and rehabilitate with us.

At Recovery Unplugged, we can work with the court system to help non-violent, first-time offenders who are eligible for release into rehab to get the help they need. Intervention Services

A professional interventionist may make all the difference when you are holding an intervention for a loved one. They can help you plan the event, guide you in what to say (and what not to say), and be there to keep the conversation flowing in the right direction in case emotions get high. They may also be able to help you get your loved one directly into treatment if they agree to go.

MUSIC ASSISTED TREATMENT THERAPY FOR ADDICTION

Recovery Unplugged is a music-centered addiction treatment center. We bring music into every level of care because music makes a difference, hitting people emotionally and helping them to get involved and open up to treatments on a deeper level. You do not need to be a musician to join us. Some of the ways we incorporate music into treatment are:

  • Making playlists
  • Listening to music
  • Creating music
  • Watching others perform at open mic nights
  • Performing at open mic nights
  • Movement to music sessions
  • Music-oriented therapy
  • Access to music spaces where you can create and record your own songs

Our virtual intensive outpatient treatment program is there for people who cannot leave their homes to get treatment for any reason. We know that practical issues can stop people from seeking treatment, and by offering online programs we aim to remove that barrier to access. Whether it is a social phobia, a health issue, a privacy issue, or a work-related reason, you may be eligible to join the virtual IOP with:

  • Individual and group therapy
  • Remote monitoring and admissions
  • Education and advice
